What the lesson is about
This A1 lesson introduces students to the everyday objects people carry in a bag or backpack — from phones and keys to gum and ID cards. Starting with a photo warm-up, students identify familiar items, learn new vocabulary, and practise describing their own belongings using basic grammar structures.
Vocabulary
Students learn the names of 13 everyday objects with audio support: phone, charger, headphones, water bottle, keys, wallet, gum, lip balm, umbrella, hand sanitizer, sunglasses, pen, ID card, pills. Practice tasks include matching words to pictures, choosing the correct word for a photo, and true/false sentences about what objects are used for.
Grammar focus: demonstrative pronouns and possessive adjectives
The lesson covers two grammar points. First, demonstrative pronouns: this (singular, near), that (singular, far), these (plural, near), those (plural, far). Students study a visual grammar table and complete matching and multiple-choice exercises using everyday object contexts. Second, possessive adjectives: the full set (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) introduced through characters Emma and Leo, with exercises combining both grammar points — for example, This is my phone and Those are her keys.
Reading and writing
The homework section includes a short reading text, "Emily's Bag," which models both grammar structures in natural sentences. Students answer comprehension questions, then complete their own "My Bag Challenge" — writing six sentences about their bag using demonstrative pronouns and possessive adjectives.
