Nature & weather: Yesterday's Adventure

This A1 ESL lesson teaches Past Simple regular verbs together with travel and airport vocabulary, framed around Tom — a tourist who missed his flight but became famous — so beginners talk about finished past actions in a vivid, memorable setting.

What students learn

Students build travel and airport vocabulary — flight attendant, check in, take off, land, gate, ticket, passport, journey — and a set of transport words: car, motorbike, ferry, bus, plane, bike. A word-definition matching task and gap-fills fix the new language in context.

Grammar focus

The lesson covers Past Simple regular verbs formed by adding -ed, across positive, negative and question forms (she watched, she didn't watch, did she watch?). It walks through the spelling rules for the -ed ending — the general rule, verbs ending in -e, consonant + -y changing to -ied, and doubling the final consonant — plus the three pronunciations of -ed.
