How to create a virtual class
How to create a virtual class in edio — add students first, fill in the class details, then manage materials and homework from the class card.
A virtual class is the space where your teacher and students come together for lessons. To create one, first add your students on the Students tab, then go to Online lessons → + Create virtual class and fill in the class details. Once the class exists, you attach materials to it and run lessons from its card.
Add your students first
You can't create a class without students, so start there.
Go to Online lessons → Students tab.
Click + Add a student.
Enter the student's email address, name, and native language.
Click Add.
The student receives an invitation email with your school's name, their login, and a temporary password for the first sign-in.
Create the class
Go to the Online lessons tab and click + Create virtual class. Fill in the form:
Class photo (optional) — drag and drop an image or browse from your device.
Virtual class name — something you'll recognize at a glance, for example "English B1 group".
Class language — the language students are learning.
The language we teach in — the language of instruction.
Students list — select from students already added to the platform.
Teachers list — who will run the class. If you teach yourself, select yourself and move on; to assign someone else, invite them in School settings first.
Call link (optional) — your Zoom, Google Meet, or other meeting link.
Lesson duration — 60 minutes by default.
Click Create virtual class. You can change any of this later from the class card.
Manage the class from its card
Each class card has Enter to open the virtual classroom, and a More actions menu with three options:
Edit — change the class details you filled in above.
Class materials — see the materials attached to this class, and create individual materials for it.
Review homework — check and evaluate student assignments.
Attach materials to the class
Open Class materials from the class card. You'll see the materials already attached, and a Create individual material option for content meant only for this class.
Click Open on any material to view it. From there you can remove it from the class, and decide which lessons stay open or closed for students — useful when you want to reveal a lesson only when you get to it.
What's next
With the class created and materials attached, you're ready to teach. Before the lesson, choose the material you'll use; during it, you keep everyone in sync from the virtual classroom.
