How to create a virtual class
How to create a virtual class in edio — add students first, fill in the class details, then manage materials and homework from the class card.
A virtual class is the space where a teacher and their students come together for lessons. Creating one takes two steps, and only the first is required.
Before you start
Students have to exist in your school before you can add them to a class, and they only get in through an email invitation. If you have not added anyone yet, do that first: How to add students to your school.
Step 1. Class details
Go to Online lessons and click + Create virtual class.
Class photo is optional. Drop a file or click browse to pick one from your device.
Virtual class name is what you will see on the card, so make it recognisable at a glance. For example, English B1 group.
Class language is the language your students are learning.
The language we teach in is the language of instruction.
Lesson duration is 60 min by default.
Students list lets you pick from the students already in your school. Add as many as belong in this class.
Teachers list is who runs the class. Select yourself if you teach it. To assign someone else, invite them first.
Call link is where your lessons happen on video. Paste the link to your video call. Any service works, and you can add this later.
Click Next.
Step 2. Schedule
This step is optional. If lesson times are not settled yet, click Create virtual class and skip it.
Choose the Lesson format: Recurring lesson for a class that repeats every week, or One-time lesson for a single session.
Select the lesson days and time. + Add another day adds more slots to a recurring class.
Set the Start date. The End date is optional, so leave it empty for an open-ended class.
Click Create virtual class.
Add or change the schedule later
A class created without a schedule shows an Add schedule button on its card. You can also change the days, times, and dates at any point from the class itself. Nothing you set during creation is locked.
Inside the class
On the class card, Enter opens the virtual classroom where lessons happen. To manage the class instead, use More actions. The class has six tabs:
Class materials shows what this class works with, and lets you create an individual material for it.
Review Homework collects everything students have submitted and not yet had checked.
Balances tracks prepaid lessons for each student. The tab only appears if the balance system is switched on for your school in School settings. Lessons are added to a balance by hand, and one lesson is deducted from every student in the class when you click Start the lesson in the virtual classroom. You can also deduct one manually. Students see their own balance and the full history of charges and deductions.
Class statistics shows total sessions, average student feedback, and average attendance, followed by a table of the latest sessions with the teacher, attendance, and lesson duration.
Schedule is the same schedule form as during creation. Change the days, times, or dates and click Save schedule.
Class settings lists every detail you filled in when you created the class. Click Edit to change any of it.
Individual materials
A class can have one individual material of its own, created with Create individual material in the Class materials tab. Use it for content that belongs to this group and nowhere else. Everything else the class works with comes from your school's library or the edio library.
Open a material inside the class
Click Open on any material in the Class materials tab. You see the class name, everyone in it, and the lessons the material contains.
Enter opens a lesson.
Close for class hides a lesson from students. Use it when you want to reveal lessons one at a time as you get to them.
Remove material from class detaches the whole material. The material itself stays in your library.

The class is ready. Choose a material at the start of your lesson, and run everything from the virtual classroom.
