How to create an online course

How to create an online course in edio — set it up in the Courses tab, choose how lessons open for students, and invite learners and teachers to it.

Online courses in edio are for self-paced learning: students work through lessons on their own, without a live class. You create a course in the Courses tab, choose how its lessons open for students, and invite learners by email. Enrolling a student in a course requires an invitation, which is billed separately from your subscription.

Create the course

Go to the Courses tab and click Add course. Fill in the form:

  • Image — the course cover.

  • Course name — for example, "English for Beginners".

  • Open lessons — how lessons become available to students (see below).

  • The language we teach — the language students will learn.

  • The language we teach in — the language used for explanations.

  • Student's native language — this defines the language of automated emails and notifications.

  • Time limit — optional; sets how long the course stays available.

Click Add. The course appears in your Courses tab.

Choose how lessons open

The Open lessons setting decides the pace of the course. Depending on what you pick, extra fields appear:

  • All open — every lesson is visible right after enrollment. No schedule.

  • By date — a new lesson opens on a repeating interval. Set a start date and choose the frequency: every day, every 2 days, every 3 days, and so on.

  • At the end of the previous lesson — the next lesson unlocks only after the student completes the current one.

  • Manual opening — you unlock each lesson yourself from the course view.

  • By days — lessons open on chosen weekdays. Select the days (Mon–Sun) and a start date; lessons are released on those days in sequence.

The choice matters more than it looks: All open suits reference material students dip into, while By date or At the end of the previous lesson keeps a marathon moving at a steady pace.

Set a time limit and completion message

Enabling Time limit adds two fields:

  • Completion date — the last day students can access the course materials.

  • Notification message — text sent automatically to students when the course ends.

Use it when the course has a fixed duration, or when you want students to hear from you as access expires rather than just losing it.

Invite students and teachers

Open More actions → User management on the course card. Inside you'll find:

  • Invite students — add learners to the course.

  • Invite teachers — give teaching access to colleagues.

Both open a window for email addresses. You can paste several at once, separated by commas — up to 100 at a time. Each person receives an email invitation to join.

Remember that each enrolled student uses one course invitation from your balance, and that invitation gives them 6 months of access to the course.

Manage your courses

The Courses tab has two filters: All courses shows everything you've created, and Awaiting review shows courses where students have submitted homework waiting to be checked. There's also a search bar and a sort menu.

Each course card has a More actions menu:

  • User management — add or remove students and teachers.

  • Copy to materials — save the course content to your materials library.

  • Edit — modify course settings or details.

  • Duplicate — create a full copy of the course for reuse.
