How to create your own materials

Your own content lives in Class materials → My Library. The structure goes from the outside in: a material holds lessons, a lesson holds chapters, and a chapter holds exercises.

Create a material

Open Class materials → My Library and click Add materials. Fill in the form:

• Image is a cover picture, so the material is easy to spot in the list.

• Name of teaching materials is a clear, descriptive title.

• The language we teach is the language students will learn.

• The language we teach in is the language of instruction.

• Select who can access this material is the list of teachers who will work with it.

• Level is the CEFR level. Tick as many as apply, from A1 Elementary to C2 Proficiency.

Click Add. The material appears as a card showing its name, image, language, level, and number of lessons.

Manage the material

Open takes you to the content. More actions holds four options:

• Copy to courses moves the material into courses, for self-study rather than live lessons.

• User access controls which teachers can work with it.

• Edit updates the details you filled in above.

• Duplicate creates a copy to adapt for another group.

Give your teachers access

New materials are shared with your teachers at View by default, so in most schools you do not need to change anything.

Open User access to change it. Each teacher gets one of three levels:

• None hides the material from that teacher entirely.

• View lets them open the material and teach from it in their virtual classes, but not change it.

• Edit lets them change the content as well.

Click Save when you are done. Use None for drafts you are still working on, and Edit for the teachers who build materials with you.

Add lessons

Click Open on the material card to see its lessons, then Add a lesson and fill in:

• Lesson title is shown in the list of lessons.

• Short description explains the lesson to students, up to 200 characters.

• Lesson image is optional.

Click Add to save.

There are two ways to add a lesson: the plus icon between existing lessons inserts one in the middle, and the Add a lesson block at the end appends it after the rest. More actions on each lesson lets you edit it, move it up or down, copy it, or duplicate it. The gear icon at the top updates the material details.

Build the lesson

Click Enter on a lesson card to open the lesson workspace.

On the left is the list of chapters, the sections of your lesson. Click Add a Chapter to create one. The three dots next to a chapter rename it or move it up and down.

In the main area, Add/Insert exercise puts an activity into the chapter. Exercises can go in any order, so you can build the structure as you go.

Choose an exercise type

Add/Insert exercise opens a window with all 32 exercise types:

• Content covers image or GIF, notes, audio, article or text, video, button link, and PDF.

• Auto-checked covers quiz, matching, true or false, word choice, fill in the blank, drag and drop, and the two image-based variants of those last two.

• Teacher-reviewed covers writing practice, teacher-reviewed writing, and teacher-reviewed audio.

• Vocabulary feeds into students' personal dictionaries.

• Integrations let you drop in activities you have already built elsewhere, or embed anything else.

Mix them freely. A lesson can open with a video, move to vocabulary, drill grammar with a quiz, and end with a writing task that comes back to you for review.

Generate an exercise with AI

Many types carry an AI badge. Pick one and the window offers Generate with AI or Manually.

Generate with AI takes a short description of what you want, along with the level, and builds the exercise for you. It costs credits, and the button shows how many before you confirm. You can edit the result afterwards like anything else. See [How AI credits work] for what each generation costs.

Copy an exercise

Copy appears under every exercise, in the edio Library and in your own materials alike. It works like a clipboard:

1. Click Copy under the exercise you want.

2. Go to the chapter where you want it, in any material.

3. Click Add/Insert exercise.

4. Click Paste the exercise at the top of the window.

This is the fastest way to build a lesson: take the warm-up from one place, the grammar drill from another, and edit them to fit your group.
