How to use chat in edio
How chat works in edio.ai: who you can message, where conversations live, and how to write to a student, a class, or a teacher.
Chat is where everyone in your school talks outside the lesson. Open it from Chat in the left menu, or use the chat panel inside the virtual classroom during a lesson.
Chat is text only. You cannot attach files or images.
Who you can message
What you see in chat depends on your role.
School owners and admins message anyone in the school. Conversations are split into three tabs:
Students — one-to-one with any student
Classes — the group conversation of a class, seen by everyone in it
Teachers — one-to-one with any teacher
Teachers see the classes they are assigned to, and a conversation with the school.
Students see their own classes, and a conversation with the school. Students can write first, they are not limited to replying.
Start a conversation
You do not create conversations in edio, they already exist. Pick a name from the list and start typing.
Owners and admins have a second way in. On Online lessons → Students or Teaching staff, each row has a message icon. Click it to jump straight to that person's conversation.
Use the search field above the list to find someone by name, or a class by class name.
Read and reply
Select a conversation to see its history. Messages are grouped by date, with the sender's name above each one.
Mark as unread in the top right puts the blue dot back on a conversation, so you can come back to it later.
For owners and admins, the panel on the right shows who you are talking to: their email, their lesson balance, the classes they are in, and a link to their analytics.
Chat during a lesson
The virtual classroom has its own chat panel on the right, next to Controls. It carries the conversation of that class, so anything written there stays with the class.
Teachers often use it to drop a link, a correction, or a quick instruction without interrupting the audio.
Email notifications
If you miss a message, edio can email you. Open your profile in the top right and turn on Email me about unread chat messages. You get an email when a message has been unread for 30 minutes.
What's next
Chat covers the messages between lessons. For everything that happens during one, see how to run an online lesson.
